Der Korpus der Thomann TK17-R Kalimba ist aus optisch ansprechendem Mahagoniholz in überzeugender Qualität gefertigt. Mit Maßen von 13,5x18,5x3,8cm ist das Instrument kaum größer als eine Tafel Schokolade und findet so in jedem Rucksack Platz. Die Kalimba ist ab Werk in C-Dur gestimmt und weist gegenüber den kleineren Modellen aus der TK-R-Reihe einen größeren Tonumfang auf. Mit den Tönen C3 bis E5 eignet sie sich auch für komplexere Melodien sowie für Akkorde. Ein robuster Metallsteg hält die 17 Metalllamellen auf dem hohlen Resonanzkörper an ihrem Platz. Die einzelnen Lamellen stimmt man, indem man sie mithilfe des beiliegenden Stimmhammers vor- und zurückschiebt.
