Exceptional piece by Gisèle Buthod-Garçon (born 1954) in glazed stoneware nuanced in ocre, yellow and brown. 1980, France. Beautiful raku work in rounded relief on the belly. Signed GBG. Gisèle Buthod-Garçon is a key figure in contemporary ceramics. For more than three decades she has explored the infinite possibilities of raku, this ancestral firing technique which she has brilliantly reinvented. Following the so-called ‘American raku’ firing method invented in the 1950s by Paul Soldner, Gisèle works contemporary raku in a sculptural way, skilfully playing with colours, mixing warm or cool tones and matte, glossy or pearly glazes. She gives her pieces ample, simple, curved volumes and forms. Her work is distinguished by its poetry and sensuality. The glazes, which she works with great mastery, give her pieces remarkable depth and chromatic richness. Height: 14cm, Diameter: 24cm Sent as fragile parcel or collection
