Oval beige glazed ceramic vase, unique piece, signed under the base Chapallaz. In perfect condition. Height: 15cm Diameter: 19cm Born in Lausanne in 1921, Édouard Chapallaz began his artistic training at the École des Arts décoratifs in Geneva. It was, however, through working with clay in the studio of ceramist Philippe Lambercy that he found his vocation. He quickly established a personal aesthetic, between formal spareness and subtle richness of glazes. From the 1950s he founded his own studio in Apples, in the canton of Vaud. Inspired by nature and Japanese traditions, he became one of the foremost Swiss ceramists of his time. Contrary to decorative art trends, his work reflects a quest for the essential, where pure form dialogues with mineral textures. His influence is considerable across a whole generation of Swiss and French ceramists, who regard him as a master of the balance between rigour and poetry. Shipping as fragile parcel or collection
