On the original, fine, mesh bracelet, this Seiko was an expensive purchase in its day. Model reference 2559-3010. HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH? From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in September 1968. We have also found the watch in the 1968 brochure, priced at ¥16,000. That is more than a Seiko GMT Worldtime in the same brochure (¥13,000), and more than three times more than the Seiko Sportsman with date (¥5,000). That helps explain why you don’t see this model much. CONDITION We can presume that the main cost of producing this watch was the bracelet, so we can start there. It is almost like ribbon – just 1.1mm thin, and would be a time consuming thing to make. It is stamped 2259-301 on the end near the lugs, so is likely only used for this model. The back of the sliding clasp is also stamped Seiko, and that sliding clasp also means it can be easily adjusted to suit most wrist sizes without special tools. There is one small section that has some damage on the edge, but the bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The case is all stainless steel, and quite slim. It is unpolished and does show a few marks here and there. The calibre 2559 manual wind movement is small but quite high end for a two handed watch – nicely finished, and with 24 jewel and micro adjustment on the regulator and quadruple shock protection, as well as running at 28.8kbph. The gloss blue dial is clean and the white hands make it easy to read. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown, crystal, buckle and strap. Pile a remplacer
