The SE 42 chair by Egon Eiermann is among the iconic designs of German post-war modernism and exemplifies the functional clarity and constructive honesty of Bauhaus‑related design. The 1949 design impresses with its balanced proportions, the slightly forward‑tilted seat and the characteristically curved backrest, which combines ergonomic comfort with a reduced, timeless formal language. Made from molded plywood in combination with solid beech wood and elastic rubber elements, the chair displays a warm yellow‑brown to brown wood tone with a visibly lively grain. The construction appears light and precise while remaining stable and suitable for everyday use – a typical feature of Eiermann’s early designs for Wilde & Spieth. Condition: Good, age-appropriate condition with light signs of use, fine scratches and patina in the wood. Overall well cared for and stable.
