Original LC4 Chaise longue à réglage continu by Cassina, designed in 1928 by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand. Cassina began producing the model in 1965; to this day, it remains part of the Italian manufacturer’s I Maestri collection.

The characteristic design is based on a curved reclining shell whose position can be adjusted on the base. This allows the inclination to be adapted from a more upright sitting position to a relaxed reclining position. The clear construction of metal, elastic webbing and leather upholstery makes the LC4 one of the best-known designs of classical modernism.

This example is consistently finished entirely in black. The softly padded cushion and the separate cylindrical headrest are upholstered in black leather. Beneath them is the typical webbing construction, attached to the curved frame with numerous metal hooks or springs. The black base forms the stable support for the freely resting reclining shell. The chaise longue is, of course, numbered 12663, which places its production in the late 1970s.

Condition: The leather is in a beautiful used vintage condition. Typical creases, light scratches and a natural patina are visible, particularly in the seat and leg areas. These signs of use give the black leather a pleasant, lived-in surface.
