Planta coat stand by Giancarlo Piretti for Anonima Castelli, 1972 Italy The coat stand shown is the Planta model, designed by Giancarlo Piretti in 1972 for Anonima Castelli, Italy. It is an iconic example of Italian industrial design of the 1970s, notable for its functional simplicity, modular construction and sculptural appearance. The coat stand is made entirely of dark brown ABS plastic, a material regarded in the 1970s as innovative and highly versatile. The cylindrical column features six foldable hooks at the top, whose organic curved shape resembles plant branches — hence the name Planta. The lower section includes two encircling rings that serve as umbrella holders. The round base provides stability, while the glossy plastic finish gives an elegant, almost futuristic look. Condition: The coat stand is in good, fully functional condition with a light, even patina. Occasional fine scratches and minimal signs of use are visible but do not detract from the overall impression. The surface shows a nice, even sheen; all hooks and umbrella rings are stable and original.
