This expressive ceramic vase from the German post-war production combines a clear, cylindrical shape with a lively, almost graphic surface design. Made by Tönnieshof for Carstens in West Germany, it reflects the typical design language of the 1960s, where reduced silhouettes were paired with expressive decorations. The dark brown, matte base tone provides a calm backdrop for the dynamic decoration of sweeping lines and stylised, coloured elements in red, blue, yellow and white. These loosely distributed motifs give the vase a playful lightness and call to mind abstract, almost handwritten compositions, as were typical for this period. Fine horizontal lines in the background add depth and structure. The slightly tapering shape with a prominent, flared opening emphasises the elegant verticality of the object, while the simple base ensures a stable stand. The vase looks especially beautiful both as a standalone piece and when combined with simple branches or dried flowers. An authentic collectible piece of West German pottery, convincing through its combination of a clear shape and a lively decoration.
