These industrial workshop chairs likely date from the 1950s to the 1970s and are typical examples of functional furniture design for workshops, technical schools and studios. The frame is made of solid, powder-coated steel tubing in a pyramidal structure, which gives the chair excellent stability and sturdiness. The seat height is adjustable via a screw mechanism and is secured by a safety chain – a classic feature of industrial production furniture of that era. Seat and backrest are made of molded, glued plywood and have a walnut-imitative finish, providing a warm contrast to the cool metal. The clear, purpose-driven design strictly follows the principles of functionality: ergonomics, robustness and easy maintenance were the focus. Such chairs were used in workshops, labs and vocational schools and are today sought-after collector’s items of industrial design. Condition: The chairs are in good, fully functional vintage condition with authentic patina. The metal frame shows signs of use, paint wear and slight surface rust. Seat and backrest show minimal edge wear and occasional scratches on the surface. The adjustment mechanism works perfectly. Overall an honest, characterful piece with industrial charm and a nice history of use.
