These parts are backrest inserts made of bentwood with Viennese caning, like those used in classic Thonet designs and their successors. The slightly curved, rectangular frame profile with a rounded cross-section and the inset caning is a typical detail of models such as the Thonet S 32 or S 64, but also of various cantilever chairs from other manufacturers from the 1950s to the 1980s. The frames are made of bent laminated wood, sometimes finished with a natural varnish, sometimes stained dark or painted black. Such backrest inserts were manufactured to standard dimensions and could be replaced if damaged, which was very practical for contract seating. This construction goes back to the long tradition of Viennese caning combined with bentwood, which began at Thonet in the 19th century and was later adopted by numerous makers. Especially in the post-war period, these backrests were produced industrially in series as spare parts. The frame has minor scratches. The caning has darkened with age and shows a light patina. Overall, these are original, used inserts with authentic ageing, well suited as replacement parts for classic bentwood or cantilever chairs. - Collection from Monday to Saturday (except public holidays) between 10:00 and 19:00 in 8004 Zürich by appointment. - Delivery?
