Characterful studio ceramics by Carstens Tönnieshof in the typical “Moon Crater” design from the late Mid-Century era. The compact vase captivates with its architectural form, featuring an asymmetrical handle, as well as the distinctive relief structure on the front. Particularly characteristic is the crater-like surface work with circular indentations and geometric ornaments, reminiscent of volcanic or cosmic landscapes—an iconic design element of West German ceramic production from the 1960s and 1970s. The dark brown to black lava glaze with light inclusions gives the piece a strong sculptural presence and underscores the brutalist character of the design. Due to its sculptural presence, the vase is suitable both as a decorative standalone piece and as a collector’s item of Fat Lava and West Germany ceramics.
