Swiss bentwood chair in the Glaris coffeehouse style, approx. 1910–1930s 

This classic bentwood chair comes from Swiss production and bears the original manufacturer stamp “Glaris”, as this is from Glarus. In terms of design, the concept is clearly oriented towards the iconic coffeehouse chairs of the turn of the century and is stylistically in the tradition of the well-known Thonet models, but it was implemented by a regional company, Horgen Glaarus. Made from solid, steam-bent beechwood, the chair impresses with its elegant and functional construction. The curved front legs flow harmoniously into the characteristic bentwood stretchers and, together with the stable frame construction, provide excellent sturdiness. The backrest with its vertical slats and the gently curved top rail offers comfortable seating and emphasizes the classic lines. The solid seat surface with a slightly raised edge fits in well with the overall look and shows a beautiful patina that has developed over the years. The warm wood tone as well as the visible signs of use give the chair an authentic, lively character and make it a striking one-of-a-kind piece with history. Such models were originally used in cafés, inns, or even private households and are now sought-after representatives of functional design from the early modern period. Thanks to its regional origin with a Glarus stamp, this example has an additional special feature and stands out from the more well-known series productions.

Condition: Used, age-related condition with clear signs of use, scratches, and wear on the wood. One curved stretcher has an older crack but still appears stable. Overall solid and fully functional, with a beautiful patina.
