Antique bentwood coat stand in the style of Thonet, early 20th century

Distinctive freestanding coat stand made of bentwood, crafted in the tradition of classic Viennese bentwood furniture from the early 20th century. The slender central column is topped by an elaborately designed crown with numerous curved coat and hat hooks. The widely projecting, spirally curved wooden elements give the coat stand its particularly decorative and sculptural appearance.

The lower section is fitted with a surrounding ring for holding walking sticks and umbrellas. Four elegantly outward-curving legs provide a stable base and echo the organic lines of the upper section. Turned details on the central column and the decorative finial at the top complete the craftsmanship-inspired design.

Condition: Authentic antique condition with pronounced age-related patina. The wood shows signs of use, rubbing, minor scratches and areas of discolouration. These emphasise the piece’s original character. The wood of the coat stand is slightly bent.
