Original Thonet S43 Freischwinger based on a design by Mart Stam. As one of the most significant classics of Bauhaus design, the S43 embodies the consistent reduction to the essentials and is still considered today a milestone in modern furniture history. By doing away with the chair’s rear legs and using an innovative freischwinger construction made from chrome-plated steel tubing, a completely new way of sitting was created—uniquely combining functionality, comfort and timeless aesthetics. 

The seat and backrest surfaces are made of moulded laminated beech plywood in a natural finish and harmonise perfectly with the glossy steel tube frame. The springy frame provides a pleasant rocking effect and high seating comfort, meaning no additional upholstery is needed. The clear lines and balanced proportions make the S43 a versatile classic that fits just as well at the dining table as it does in a conference room, office or living space. 
This set includes the original Thonet quality stickers and impresses with its high-quality workmanship as well as the durability typical of Thonet. Thanks to its iconic design and robust construction, the S43 Freischwingers are still among the most sought-after designs of classical modernism.

Condition:
The chairs are in very good vintage condition with light age-related signs of wear. The moulded beech plywood surfaces show a lovely, even patina with individual signs of use. The chrome-plated steel tube frames are stable and well preserved.
