Original design classics by Embru, based on the design by German architect and Bauhaus student Gustav Hassenpflug. The Model 1255 was designed as early as 1934 and is one of the most durable Swiss classics of contract furniture. Its pared-back construction in wood and tubular steel combines functionalist design with high everyday practicality and a remarkably contemporary formal language to this day. The Hassenpflug chair is characterised by its slim, stackable tubular steel frame combined with an ergonomically shaped seat and a wide, slightly concave moulded plywood backrest. The seat has the typical slight depression and curves gently downwards at the front edge. The seat and backrest are visibly attached to the frame with metal rivets or screws – a constructional detail that further emphasises the functional character of the design. The wooden parts are typically made of beech or moulded beech plywood, with a warm, naturally lacquered surface. The metal frames of these examples have a matt silver-grey finish and are likely to correspond to the historical bright zinc-plated version. Thanks to the open tubular construction, the chairs appear light and restrained despite their robust build. Condition: The wooden surfaces show visible age- and use-related marks such as scratches, small pressure marks, abrasion and localised changes or differences in the lacquer and wood tone. The tubular steel frames also show patina, matt areas, minor scratches and age-related surface changes. Dimensions: L40 x W45 x H78 cm Seat height 45 cm
