These drawer chests from the 1960s were designed by Alfred Hendrickx for the Belgian furniture manufacturer Belform. The pieces belong to the mid-century style and can be used both as bedside tables and side tables.
 Belform is known for numerous elegant and sculptural furniture pieces, including chests of drawers.

The two drawer chests have a classic cubic form and are made of wood veneer with a warm, clearly visible grain. Each chest has three wide drawers with distinctive, square metal handles. The simple design of the fronts is further emphasised by the horizontally running wood grain. On the sides, the grain runs vertically and accentuates the clear form of the body.

The drawer chests each stand on a recessed black plinth. This creates a distinct contrast between the warm wood and the dark base. At the same time, the recessed plinth makes the cubic body appear visually slightly raised from the floor.

The simplicity and refinement of the formal language are characteristic of the design. Industrial-looking elements, as well as the combination of metal and fine woods, define the design. The square metal handles provide a clear accent on the otherwise pared-back fronts, while the visible grain of the wood veneer underscores the warm effect of the two pieces of furniture.

Inside, the drawers are finished in a light colour and feature a coloured, geometrically patterned drawer bottom. The red, blue and white pattern creates a playful contrast with the simple, straight-lined design of the wooden fronts.

Condition: The chests are in good vintage condition, with natural signs of age and use that have accumulated over the years.
