These stackable bar stools made of red lacquered sheet steel date from the 1980s and are clearly inspired by Xavier Pauchard’s iconic Tolix stool, one of the best-known French designs of the 20th century. The stool was originally designed for the Tolix company as early as the 1930s and has been considered a classic of industrial design ever since. The version shown here is probably either an original from a later production or a licensed reproduction from the same period.

The design is characterised by a simple, robust form: four tapered legs, lateral crossbars for stability and a slightly recessed seat with a central handle opening for easy carrying and stacking. The construction is made entirely of pressed steel and finished in a high-gloss, vivid red – a characteristic feature of many industrial furnishings from the post-war period. The stool combines functionality, durability and a clear, graphic aesthetic that still makes it a popular piece in workshops, cafés and modern interiors today.

Condition: The stools are in good, stable vintage condition with age-appropriate patina. The paint shows occasional scratches, small chips and light signs of use that emphasise the authentic industrial character. The stacking function works perfectly; the stools stand firmly and without wobbling. Some stools no longer have glides, see photos.
