These characteristic armchairs by Arcalo date from the 1950s and are based on a design by Portuguese metalworker and designer Gonçalo Rodrigues dos Santos. The design, now known as the Gonçalo Chair, is considered one of the classics of Portuguese post-war design and was developed particularly for use in cafés and on terraces. 

The elegantly curved frame made of white-lacquered steel tubing forms both the legs and continuous armrests, giving the chairs their distinctive, lightweight silhouette. The wooden seat provides a warm contrast to the white metal. The wide backrest, slightly flared towards the rear, is also white and framed by the continuous tubular steel construction.

Condition: The chairs are in used vintage condition with signs of wear due to age and use. The wooden seats show visible scratches, abrasions and minor discolouration. The white-lacquered metal frame has areas with scratches, rubbing and minor paint damage. Overall, the pieces display an authentic patina consistent with their age.
