RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) is the contactless exchange of data between an RFID transponder and an RFID write/read device. For data transmission, the RFID write/read device builds a magnetic or electromagnetic field that powers the passive RFID transponder. As long as the RFID transponder is within the electromagnetic field of the RFID write/read device, it is powered and data exchange can take place. Information can be read from the transponder's chip, but new data can also be stored on the chip.
