In 1896, an opulent illustrated volume entitled 'My Journey Through Switzerland' was published in Neuchâtel, Paris and Leipzig. The large-format album, produced using the highly modern book-printing techniques of the time, is an impressive visual record of Switzerland at the height of its tourist development. The album offers a varied pictorial journey, supplemented by descriptive texts that bear witness to the editor’s refreshing enthusiasm, or in other words: Swiss tourism advertising in the best sense. The album 'My Journey Through Switzerland', which came from a family collection, motivated Paul Honegger to make the journey from the 1890s once again today and revisit the sites of the Switzerland of that era’s tourist industry. The striking juxtaposition of historical and new photographs often prompts reflection on changes in the landscape and settlements.
