The “Green Tara” is often associated with the figure of Tara, an important female deity in Buddhism, particularly in Tibetan Buddhism. There are different forms of Tara, but the “Green Tara” is one of the most venerated.
Who is Tara (Green Tara)
- Origin: Tara is considered a manifestation of the compassion of all deities. According to tradition, she was born from the tears of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of mercy.
- Appearance: Green Tara is usually represented as a young woman with green skin, elegantly dressed and adorned with jewellery. The green colour symbolises prosperity and beauty.
- Symbolism: Her green colour also represents movement and activity, in contrast to White Tara, who represents calm and tranquillity.
 What does she represent?
- Protection and liberation: Tara is invoked to receive protection and help in difficult situations and to overcome obstacles. She is often considered the “Mother of all Buddhas”, and it is believed that she helps one attain enlightenment.
- Compassion: She is seen as a symbol of compassion, love and benevolence, both towards others and towards oneself.
- Spiritual guidance: Tara offers guidance to those seeking to progress on their spiritual path, helping them develop qualities such as wisdom and patience.
