Coach Dino Zoff started the season and was subsequently replaced by Zaccheroni. During this season, Lazio finished 6th in the Italian championship standings, but later on financial problems arose, forcing the club to sell many key players.

With this shirt, it was the last season for captain Nesta before he transferred to AC Milan. In this team, Lazio had several faithful players after the departures of Veron, Nedved, Ravanelli and Salas.
