The impact of the Adidas 1996 “Santiago” template was not immediately felt. It took several decades to realise that this functional sportswear design—three stripes following the movement of the torso—had become a piece of fashion history. Almost by accident. Originally worn by the national teams of France, Romania, Norway, Germany and Sweden, as well as by several clubs from Crystal Palace to FC Sion. It inspired the equally beautiful two‑stripe version by the German sportswear maker Jako. The Santiago became part of our collective memory, our visual language.
