Founded in 1953 by Belinda Bellville, the fashion house took the name Bellville Sassoon in 1970, after David Sassoon, who had joined the house in 1958, became its artistic director.
The house dressed an affluent British clientele, whose most famous representative was Princess Diana.
In addition to the Princess of Wales, Bellville Sassoon created outfits for Princess Margaret, Jackie Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Helen Mirren and Madonna.
