The gameplay of Revelations is oriented toward the earlier games in the series shaped by survival horror, with recurring elements such as limited ammunition supplies and a greater emphasis on exploration and puzzle solving.[3] The camera in the game maintains an over-the-shoulder view of the playable character. Unlike earlier Resident Evil games, the player can now move the character while aiming with a weapon, and can switch between third-person and first-person perspectives. A new gameplay concept, the Genesis-Scanner, can be used throughout the game to locate hidden items in the environment.
