Description The first overview of a group of artists who come from the street, have reduced the computer to a minimum and redefined handmade work. Moving in a grey area between art, design and illegality, these artists and authors operate outside the art establishment’s universities and galleries. Their starting point was traditional graffiti, with its notions of rebellion, outsider identity and urban tribalism. The book is public art in the style of the 21st century. Using spray cans, brushes, stencils, photocopiers, collages, computers, video and film, they create intense images that represent the visual equivalent of the polyrhythmic complexity of contemporary music. “Scrawl” presents the work of more than 30 artists and features commissioned works from innovative record labels.
