Resident Evil 5 marked another evolution of the series away from pure survival horror towards an action-oriented third-person shooter, similar to its predecessor Resident Evil 4. 

Gameplay:
The title focuses heavily on action and the co-op mode, where players can play through the campaign either online or offline in split-screen with a partner (Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar). Inventory is managed in real time, adding extra tension.

Atmosphere:
Critics and fans note that the sunny African setting creates a different atmosphere than the darker predecessors and reduces the scare factor.

Reception:
The game generally received good reviews (e.g., 9 out of 10 from IGN) and was a commercial success.
