Aero 35 „Axiel Engine“ – horizontal inline two-stroke engine, year of construction 1963! A revolutionary engine from Buffalo, New York! A unique Axiel engine by August Savage and John Piston (Aero Research & Development). The perhaps most unusual engine model that was offered publicly in 1963. It was an unconventional „Axiel“ engine in which cylinders and pistons with their axes are arranged parallel to the crankshaft. August and John invested around 20 years into developing and testing about 45 different engine models. Thanks to its design, this engine fits perfectly into the engine cowling of a propeller aircraft. It features a die-cast light-metal crankcase with a steel running sleeve, a light-metal piston with two cast-iron piston rings, a forged S-shaped steel connecting rod, and a steel crankshaft that runs in two ball bearings. Technical data: Displacement: 5.686 cm³ (0.347 cu in) Bore: 20.6 mm (0.812 in) Stroke: 17 mm (0.670 in) Weight: approx. 269 g (10.5 oz) Power: 0.42 hp* at 11,500 rpm with 5% nitromethane Typical propeller speeds*: Top-Flite Power-Prop 12x5" – 8,400 rpm Top-Flite Power-Prop 11x5" – 9,600 rpm Tornado Nylon 10x6" – 10,200 rpm
