THE DEFINITION OF UPCYCLING

Upcycling is all about giving your items - or secondhand items - a second chance, and expressing your personal style. Whether it is your T-shirt, old furniture, or even some old CDs: If you don’t like or need them anymore, don’t just throw them away: upgrade them! The word ‘upcycle’ speaks for itself: ‘cycle’ stands for the life cycle of an item, while ‘up’ defines the upgrading of it. The great thing is that you can personalize almost any item and make it unique.
Upcycling is also sustainable. At its core, it’s about minimizing your environmental footprint by reducing resource depletion, pollution, and waste in general. Imagine that by upcycling your favorite pair of jeans instead of buying a new pair, you could save 10.18 kg of CO2 emissions. Do this twice and you will save the emissions of a car journey from Zurich to Basel. 🤯

HOW TO UPCYCLE

You can upcycle any item you want - not just clothes. And there is no need to upcycle only items you already have at home - if you have an upcycling project in mind, you will find everything you need on marko as well ;)
For example, in the picture below you can see a barrel lying around in a cellar for years until a young couple bought it secondhand and brought it back to life by making a barrel bar out of it.
