Iconic SZ02 armchair designed by Martin Visser for the Dutch manufacturer ’t Spectrum. The design combines a rigorously pared-back tubular steel construction with a freely tensioned seat and backrest made of natural-coloured saddle leather, and is one of the characteristic Dutch design creations of the post-war modernist period. The delicate frame is made of chromed or metallic-finish steel tubing and follows clear, geometric lines. The seat and backrest consist of wide leather strips stretched directly over the structure. The armrests are also covered in leather, creating a warm contrast with the cool metal frame. The construction details on the underside are particularly appealing: the leather is tensioned and secured with visible lacing and a leather strap. Precisely executed seams and the openly displayed construction emphasise the functional character of the design. Over the years, the natural leather has developed a pronounced, warm honey to cognac patina. Colour changes, small stains and different shades give the armchair its authentic vintage character and make every detail of the aged leather surface visible. Condition: Good vintage condition with clear age- and use-related traces. The leather shows a pronounced natural patina with colour differences, stains and partial discolouration. The leather surfaces, seams and lacing are overall authentic and appropriate to the age. The metal frame also shows light signs of use. The existing patina has been deliberately preserved and is part of the armchair’s character. Dimensions: L60 x W60.5 x H72 cm Seat height 40 cm
